Myself, Thalia, and Noushka (Thal's cousin) spent a girl's night out together this Saturday night. Before I met them, I had dinner with my brother at Koi restaurant & gallery at Kemang, my fave place for fusion food. Around 10.15 PM, we, 3 determined girls, left for B.A.T.S. (Bar At The Shangri-La), a bar full of foreigners at Shangri-La hotel. Very good live band from Canada, called DZire. The atmosphere? Um.... Read Thal's entry later when she gets around to write about it ^_~ Apparently, BATS is the most popular bar in Jakarta, especially for expats. I found this while searching for it. Hmmm... ^^; Above all, though, I really like the band a lot. We will go back there on weekdays, when the crowd is fewer and (hopefully) healthier.
We then continued to Pasir Putih at Kemang, just to check out the changes made to the place (after a few years had passed). Though, I wouldn't go there again: the music was so loud that we all had a headache (so we were forced to sit outside by the pool) & the place is kind of 'yesterday'. After all, it was famous when I was still in high school. That was 7-8 years ago. The crowd are Indonesians, mostly teenagers to university students. The only thing that I like was the voice of the female singer. Only the voice.
I regret... that when I was still in the US, I didn't check out enough cafe/bar/restaurant with live music in NYC, LA, Boston, and DC; especially those who have live jazz. There are only very few of them in Jakarta, and even fewer good ones.
If I happen to go to NYC one day, I'd like to stay at Hotel Elysée :P See the crest? Fleur de Lis! ^^ I'd definitely visit the Monkey Bar while there.
Updated (3/17): Here goes Thal's entry about our fun night @ BATS ^^ Ah, the name of the crepe place is Praline at Kemang :9
Y'know, when you're inside Praline restaurant, you won't feel like you're in Jakarta. Provided you don't look outside XD So get a seat in the farthest end of the window! Hehe.
Look! A lot of good restaurants. I want to try some of them, if not all. Especially Caswell's Coffee and New York Deli.
