Writer's Block: Bucket list

  • Oct. 26th, 2009 at 1:55 AM
winter: dreaming
If you found out you only had six months left to live, what would you do with the rest of your life? Do you have a "bucket list"?

During our community's (called Domus Cordis -- DC for short) internal retreat last August 2009, Fr. Deshi SJ (DC moderator) threw the same question during one of the sessions he gave. He told us to write the top 3 priority things we would do if we only had six months left to live.

So here goes my bucket list (top 3 only):
1. Get married. I really wanna have at least one offspring to create future generations of my bloodline & continue my family tree, but 6 months left to live is not enough to make a child! ○| ̄|_
2. Travel all around the world with my family.
3. Treat my inner circle to good food as often as possible, coz I love culinary and I wanna spread the love O(≧∇≦)O

What's with the "... days/months left to live" questions in Writer's Block lately? (O_O;)

More importantly: why do I enjoy answering them? 八(^□^*)

What band are you dying to see live in concert that you've never seen before? Would you travel to a different city or state just to see them?

Not really dying, but I'd love to see KAT-TUN live in concert. I would travel to Japan just to see them, yup. Especially to see Jin in flesh  and hear his sugoooi voice
But first, I'm gonna need to learn Japanese, which is what I'm lazy to start  ○| ̄|_

It's October 7th, so...

ヽ(^0^)た(^。^)だ(^−^)い(^O^)ノま

I got back last night (Friday evening, Sep 25th). My body clock still follows Sydney time, so I crashed bed immediately upon finishing unpacking and woke up very early in the morning. Still very tired coz I didn't get enough sleep the night before and from walking too much in Melbourne & Sydney!

I wanted to write about my Australia trip, but I still don't have the energy to edit photos, etc.
So I'm mostly just catching up with LJ and Twitter updates, as well as downloading torrents, because I couldn't do so in Australia for fear of being reported & sued (because there were warnings everywhere).

Let's play a bit with Blogthings & my name! ヾ(。・ω・。)`*

My real name is Elysia, I bet only very few of you know that.

Everyone called me Elysia until I graduated from high school. During high school, I changed my nickname to Elyse to shorten it. So from then on, I am called Elyse, and I even introduce myself as Elyse. That explains why my current friends don't know my real name (_ _;)

I thought, perhaps nicknames have their own meanings, too. It might have an impact to your personality.... or not? I don't know. Either way, these are the Blogthings results for both names:

ELYSIA〜☆
Your Name is Yellow

Your name tells people that you are welcoming and cheerful. You are open to all the love in the world.

You are a warm person who can't help but make others feel comforted. You are truly radiant.

People see you as someone who has figured out the secrets to life. While that's not true, you do try to remain positive in the face of adversity.

You are the sunshine in other people's lives. You make more of a difference than you realize.

ELYSE〜♪♥
Your Name is Gray

Your name tells people that you are calm and level headed. Your name makes you seem honest and fair.

You are able to look at things clearly and without emotion. You tend to remain neutral in most disputes.

People see you as reliable and trustworthy. You treat everyone equally, and you don't tend to have any prejudices.

You are naturally calculating and even a bit cunning. You don't like to show your cards too early in the game.

What Color Is Your Name?

Bottomline is.... no wonder I'm becoming more and more cold-hearted since I changed my nickname. I went from yellow to gray! xD

This is just for fun, obviously~ *lol*

australia, here i come~~

dailycandy: travel galore!
It's 7.30am and I haven't slept at all...
In about 2.5 hours my family and I will be leaving to the airport en route Australia.

Actually, it was a last minute decision. 3 weeks ago, upon my dad's sudden idea that we go to Australia for Lebaran holiday, we started to search for tickets and found that they were all fully booked. We even asked tours (although we don't like going on a tour!), but mostly they were either fully booked or not enough people, thus they might cancel their tour.

After a day full of frantic phone calls, the following day we luckily got a positive answer from Best Tour. They got spare group tickets for their tour (which is confirmed to go because they've reached their minimum of 15 people) and sold us only the international tickets, so we could arrange our own itinerary as we wish. Awesome! Just what I love to do: researching on accommodations & domestic plane tickets on my own!

Oh, thankfully my dad and I already got our Australian visas from last year, so we didn't have to reapply. Good thing the visas for my mom & bro only took a week to process.

Here's the itinerary (for me & mom):
18: Jakarta - Melbourne
19: Arrive Melbourne
20: Melbourne
21: Melbourne - Sydney
22: Sydney
23: Sydney
24: Sydney
25: Sydney - Jakarta

And here's the itinerary (for bro & dad):
18: Jakarta - Melbourne
19: Arrive Melbourne
20: Melbourne
21: Melbourne - Gold Coast
22: Gold Coast - Sydney
23: Sydney
24: Sydney
25: Sydney - Jakarta

Yup, my mom and I will skip Gold Coast (coz there's not much to see there... and I'm not a big fan of beach) and decide to stay longer in Sydney so I can have culinary trips! O(≧∇≦)O

I actually wanted to extend a couple more days, because 6 full days is not enough! But since it's a group ticket, we can't prolong the stay & must travel to Melbourne on Sep 18 & from Sydney on Sep 25 together with the group.

We will stay at Quest on Collins Street in Melbourne and Hyde Park Inn in Sydney. I wanted to book Holiday Inn Surfers Paradise in Gold Coast, but they're fully booked! *sobs* So I booked Watermark Hotel & Spa instead and might cancel it if I get a better hotel.

One more exciting news: we will see Chicago The Musical that's playing at Her Majesty's Theatre in Melbourne! YAAAYYY~~! \(*^▽^*)/

じゃ~~ いってきまつ!!  ☆ミ(o*・ω・)ノ

This is the first time I felt a big earthquake, after years~!

So I was in front of the computer at home, then suddenly I felt everything shaking & the bookcase doors above me were all opened (thankfully the books didn't fall down on me!). For a while I kept sitting while updating to Twitter: "Earthquake, earthquake, earthquakeeeeee!" before I fled out of the computer room *lol*

I didn't go out of the house, coz it stopped when I was about to exit the house. It lasted for 2-3 minutes and was magnitude 7.4 SR. It originated at Tasikmalaya, and reportedly 25+ people died (according to CNN). Glad the tsunami warning was cancelled!

Above all, I'm glad everyone I know is OK.

As always, Twitter has been the first one to break the news. Here's my Twitter timeline at the time of the quake:

Like [info]ichabunni said here:
Blogging just isn't what it used to be anymore.
That's also what I've felt for a long while!

I don't feel comfortable sharing about my life openly anymore, like I used to do 5+ years ago. And laziness got the best of me. I've wanted to write about vacation trips and post photos as a way to preserve the memory, but as always... I'm such a bad bad procrastinator! So obviously that never happens.

Nowadays I'm getting lazier... mostly because of Twitter. The 140-character microblogging service is so much more practical to share whatever crosses my mind at any given moment... and whatever I experience / feel at any given time. In short, Twitter spoils me.

Perhaps I should start resurrecting my old passion & desires once again.
Or not *shrugs*

Interests have shifted, passion & desires have shifted... So many things that mattered before, don't matter anymore now.
I guess it's all due to us getting old? *lol*

boss is love! ♥

nana: hachi - la la la

BOSS is probably the only Spring dorama (along with The Quiz Show 2 & Majo Saiban) that I really enjoy to the max! Not only the cast is great, the story is also very entertaining.

I love the interactions between the character.. and how each story is pretty realistic. [info]utaoutao said that it's easy to guess who the culprit is in each episode, because the one playing it is (almost) always a famous actor/actress =P Although she's right, I always find myself surprised in the end, by the motive & all that. Sometimes I'm pretty scared of watching it at night, but whenever I'm scared, I turn the volume down. It works! *lol*

I initially decided to watch BOSS because of the storyline and the great cast: Yuki Amami, Yutaka Takenouchi, Erika Toda... But then I fell in love with TamaTetsu and Junpei Mizobata there xD

Character observations:
  • Yuki Amami did a great job portraying Eriko. I think this type of character really suits her! (Note to self: search hard for Rikon Bengoshi!)
  • I loooooove Nodate! This is the first time I see Yutaka being such a womanizer o(>▽<o)(o>▽<)o He never fails to make me laugh! And his Nodate-Kon is waaay too funny! O(≧∇≦)O
  • Although a few have said otherwise, I actually like TamaTetsu in here. Dunno, he looks pretty cool although his character is a bit gloomy (at first). His hairstyle, however, is a bit weird (>_<)○  Ooh, my favorite scene of him is episode 8 where he holds a gun & (finally) shoots. 格好いいいい!!
  • Junpei turns out to be a good actor! I really like him portraying the fidgety & enthusiastic Hanagata. I wanna see more of him~
  • Erika Toda always does a great job in her actings. She can totally transform into her character. In BOSS, she convinced me that she was the sleepyhead & lazy Mami Kimoto, and she successfully conveyed Kimoto's feelings and thoughts to the audience. Great job, as always, from Erika.
Each guest in every episode is also doing a great job with their character: Mirai Shida, Takashi Sorimachi, Manami Konishi, Takayuki Yamada, etc.

2 days ago I finished the last episode, so I wrote my thoughts below: (BEWARE SPOILERS!)

here spoilers of the ending xD )

Bottomline:
truly one of the best dorama ever made! ♥♥♥
It's actually on my top 3 list, along with Nodame Cantabile & Maou.

Are you friends with your parents?

Oh YES, very much so! Well, I'm bestfriends with my mom and close friends with my dad ^^

In my community cell group (a total of 10 people), I'm the only one who is friends with the parents. The other 9 members can't be friends with their own parents. Perhaps because of the Asian culture (Chinese, in our case), parents and children have a line that can't be crossed. And all the unwritten rules of Asian parents & children are here, just like in other Asian countries, for instance:
  • Parents know best about their children's life.
  • Never talk back to your parents.
  • ... etc

Thank God my parents aren't like that! *phew* They're so liberal & practice democracy at home, while still emphasizing the Asian values of "respect your parents". I feel lucky to have been born in a non-conservative family! :3

If you could only eat one kind of cuisine—Mexican, Thai, French, Italian, Indian, Chinese, etc.—for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?

First choice: Indonesian cuisine!

Quoted from Wikipedia:
Indonesian cuisine reflects the vast variety of people that live on the 6,000 populated islands that make up Indonesia. There is probably not a single "Indonesian" cuisine, but rather, a diversity of regional cuisines influenced by local Indonesian culture and foreign influences.
So, I will never run out of choices in Indonesian cuisine for there are sooooo many kinds of food! I will never get bored either. In my opinion, the variety of Indonesian cuisine is THE BEST in the world! ♥

Second choice: Japanese cuisine ^^

However, I might get bored if I eat too much Japanese food. The variety is not that many either, especially compared to Indonesian food.
